Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to book a trip?

Our fishing seasons change throughout the year. If you have something specific you’d like to catch, make sure to ask about it at the time of booking. Regardless of the season, there is always something to catch in St Augustine.

What happens if the weather is unfavorable?

We try to work around the weather as best we can! Less than ideal weather does not permit cancellation though. Your Captain is responsible for safety & decides when the weather is unsafe to go. In Florida, predicting the weather several days out is almost impossible. If conditions are unsafe, we will try to reschedule your trip or cancel your trip without penalty. Most of the time, we can delay our trip and wait for weather to pass.

Once we arrive at the Vilano Pier, where do we go?

Once you park, walk under the pavilion towards the pier. About halfway down the pier, there is a ramp with access to the floating dock, Capt. David or Kelly will meet you there!

What should I bring?

Bring some snacks for the day! Our trips are short but you’re welcome to bring lunch if you feel like you want it. We have water and cooler space on the boat for you. If you want any specialty drinks, feel free to bring them. Otherwise, do not forget a hat, sunglasses, and non-spray sunscreen. That’s it! Everything else is provided.

How can I reduce the chances of sea sickness?

If this is your first time going offshore in a boat (coastal trips) then it is recommended that you take Dramamine to avoid motion sickness. It is best to take a half dose the night before your trip & the other half the morning of your trip. Eating something light the morning of your trip helps a lot too. Like a piece of toast or small sandwich.

How far offshore do we go?

We travel anywhere from 1 - 25 miles offshore. Generally, the length of the trip determines the distance we travel. We do not promise a distance because sometimes the fishing is better in closer!

What is the difference between Inshore & Coastal?

Inshore fishing is in the intracoastal waterway fishing the creeks & tributaries of St Augustine. Coastal fishing is offshore in the Atlantic Ocean.

Should we reach out to you?

After you book, Capt. David will call you directly. You’re welcome to reach out to him by sending an email to Captain@hallinginfish.com
